I have recently been spending a lot of time researching the copy writing and copy editing professions; I am a writer that also tends to spend a lot of time editing copy. I have been trying to determine the best possible course of action in regard to freelancing as a copy writer and editor as well as blogging professionally. Right now, I have the problem of not knowing exactly what I should "professionally blog" about. I have knowledge of and interest in a variety of subjects, I am very opinionated, and I tend enjoy discussing all matter of things. What then, should I use my blog "for"?
I am still undecided as of this very moment; I am sitting here typing this blog post not even knowing where I am going with it. For some reason (over the past several weeks) as I have tried to decide what exactly I should spend my time blogging about, I have started to feel like a complete and total moron because I can't make a decision as simple as "what I want to talk about".
What then, do I do? Should I continue to visit my site on a daily basis and simply write about nothing, effectively turning my little piece of the web into the Seinfeld of the Blogosphere? Do I choose to not blog until I have made up my mind about what I want to blog about? Do I write all of the topics I have an interest in down on their own individual scraps of paper, crumple them up, toss them into a shoe box then ask my 5 year old to "pick one"? At this point, I have no idea. I think I would have the best shot with option number three. No one wants to read a blog about nothing, do they?
Do they?
This isn't my first blog, not even my second (we are working on number 6 at this point). I have had two blogs centered around the entertainment industry (movies, television and music specifically), one for reviewing movies and television, one that centered around food/dining out, even a personal narrative of my political opinions and one that was just a complete and utter mess of my opinions on everything. What I want to do is blog professionally, I want to make money doing what I love to do: Write.
It really shouldn't be this hard to figure out what I want to write about. At this point, the main concern I have is, what will people want to read that I actually have an opinion about? When I figure that out, I guess I will know where we are going from here.
Until next time - M
